WATERTOWN, WI – The Maranatha Baptist University Athletics Department has released the 2013-14 MBU Scholar Athlete’s List, recognizing 44 athletes in 11 different sports, the most since the 2011-12 academic year.
Athletes must maintain at least a 3.5 GPA in both the fall and spring semesters while lettering in one intercollegiate sport. This criterion exceeds AD3I standards by requiring attendance in both semesters.
Football, volleyball and men’s soccer teams tied for the most athletes represented, at nine apiece, while women’s basketball and volleyball finished with the highest percentage of scholar athletes, at 60% and 56% respectively.
The Sabercats Athletes balanced excellence in the classroom with the rigors of athletics. Seven athletes recorded a 4.0 GPA, and 21 with at least a 3.75 GPA in both semesters while eight individuals competed in multiple sports.
